JUI-F Leaders Urge Dialogue to Address Balochistan’s Worsening Security Situation
QUETTA:Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Balochistan Emir Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay and General Secretary Maulana Agha Mahmood Shah have said that irresponsible statements amid the province’s deteriorating situation are tantamount to adding fuel to the fire.
In a joint statement, they said individuals holding responsible positions must recognize the gravity of their responsibilities, as the lack of responsibility has become one of the major factors contributing to the province’s worsening crisis.
They said that since the 1970s, certain elements had treated the Balochistan issue as a matter of ego instead of addressing it realistically and demonstrating political flexibility, bringing the situation to its current stage.
“The prevailing situation in Balochistan is by no means satisfactory,” they said, adding that unrest, insecurity and uncertainty were continuing to increase rather than decline.
They noted that the involvement of women in the conflict and its spread from mountainous areas to markets and urban centers were clear indications of the seriousness and complexity of the situation.
The JUI leaders emphasized that the only viable solution to the issue was mutual dialogue, political engagement and meaningful negotiations. Any other approach, they warned, would not only be inappropriate but could further complicate the situation.
They said JUI, despite its political reservations, had already offered all possible cooperation in view of the prevailing circumstances in the province.
According to them, the most fundamental requirement at this stage was confidence-building. The government and all relevant stakeholders should move forward with negotiations and confidence-building measures instead of adopting an approach based on ego, stubbornness and confrontation.
They stressed that a lasting solution to the Balochistan issue could not be achieved through force and confrontation, but through political wisdom, mutual trust and serious, meaningful negotiations.
