Imran Khan Is Popular Among People, Will Negotiate but Not Strike a Deal: Muhammad Ali Durrani

LAHORE: Former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan remains popular among the people and would engage in negotiations but would not enter into any political deal.

Speaking in an interview with V News, Durrani said that a person who endured imprisonment and hardships remained alive in the hearts of the people.

He expressed hope that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman would remain with them and would not side with the government. He said he hoped Fazlur Rehman would act according to the sentiments of the people.

The former minister reiterated that Imran Khan would negotiate but would not make any deal. He said Imran Khan still had no intention of striking a deal, while the concessions previously being offered by the government had now ended.

Durrani said Imran Khan was currently popular among the public and that the people of Pakistan had a strong memory. He maintained that those who endured the hardships of imprisonment remained remembered by the public.

Commenting on the government’s political future, Durrani said there were several signs indicating the end of a government’s tenure. The first, he claimed, was when a government began engaging in widespread corruption; the second was when it started oppressing the people; and the final sign was a confrontation with the judiciary.

He alleged that the government had already gone through all three stages and had also begun a confrontation with the judiciary.

“The government has built its own political grave, so what can we do about it?” he remarked.
