Senator Palwasha Khan Reacts Strongly to PIMS Nursery Fire, Demands Accountability

ISLAMABAD: Senator Palwasha Khan has strongly reacted to the fire incident at the nursery of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), questioning the hospital’s administrative system and alleged negligence.

Speaking to journalists outside Parliament House, Palwasha Khan described PIMS as a “torture chamber,” saying, “It is better for me to die at home than at PIMS.”

The senator rejected the argument that adequate funds were not available for the hospital and called for a comprehensive audit of PIMS. She demanded that the authorities determine where billions of rupees allocated to the hospital had been spent.

Expressing grief over the deaths of 14 children in the incident, Palwasha Khan said the innocent children should not have been made “scapegoats” for a failed system. She stressed that the children were not responsible for the failure of the hospital’s system.

“If the system is not functioning, why don’t those responsible step aside?” she questioned, alleging that administrative negligence had resulted in the deaths of 14 children.

Palwasha Khan said the tragedy should prompt authorities to review safety and administrative arrangements at other hospitals across the country as well.

She acknowledged that the grief suffered by the families of the deceased children could not be compensated, but emphasized that those responsible for the incident must be identified and held accountable.
