Punjab Approves Electricity Duty Rules 2026, New Tax Framework for Solar and Generators

Lahore (Khabar Desk) — The Punjab Cabinet has approved the Electricity Duty Rules 2026, introducing a new tax framework for private power generation systems, including large generators and solar energy installations.

Under the new regulations, domestic consumers will remain fully exempt from the electricity duty. However, certain commercial entities and private power generation units will fall under the new regulatory structure.

Officials said the purpose of the framework is to regulate private electricity production, improve revenue collection, and enhance transparency in the energy sector while ensuring that ordinary citizens are not burdened with additional financial costs.

The government stated that the policy is aimed at streamlining energy management and bringing private power generation into a more organized and accountable system.
