Wholesale Grocers in Karachi and Other Cities Stage Shutdown Strike Against Withholding Taxes

Karachi: In protest against the newly imposed withholding taxes in the budget, wholesale grocers have staged a strike, closing down the Jodia Bazaar for three days. According to Rauf Ibrahim, Chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association, markets in 17 cities of Punjab, especially Faisalabad, are also shut. In Sindh, wholesale grain markets in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur are participating in the strike.
Rauf Ibrahim stated that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, grocers in Peshawar, Mardan, and Kohat have closed their markets as well. The strike, which began on July 31, will continue until August 2. Ibrahim warned that if their demands are not met, a new course of action will be announced on August 6. He emphasized that the protest will escalate day by day until the taxes are abolished.
