Weather Department Forecasts Rain and Snowfall Across Pakistan
Islamabad:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rain and snowfall across the country today, with some areas already experiencing these weather conditions. According to the forecast, on Sunday, rain is expected in Northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper Punjab, Pothohar region, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galyat, with snowfall likely in the mountainous areas.
The weather department also warned of medium to dense fog in most plains of Punjab during the morning and night hours. Cities including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, Noor Pur Thal, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Lahore are expected to witness rain.
In Sindh’s upper regions, including Sukkur, Benazirabad, Shikarpur, and Khairpur, dense fog is expected to persist during the early morning and evening hours. The majority of Balochistan is forecast to remain very cold and dry.
In the past 24 hours, rain and light snowfall occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Other areas of the country remained cold with partially cloudy skies, while northern Balochistan experienced severe cold weather. Most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh also saw medium to heavy fog.
The highest rainfall recorded was 73 mm in Chitral, 29 mm in Mir Khani, 27 mm (Upper), and 3 mm (Lower) in Dera, 20 mm in Drosh, and 4 mm in Kalam, Patton, Parachinar, Malam Jabba, and Kakul. The heaviest snowfall was recorded in Chitral (11 inches), Kalam, Drosh (2 inches), and Malam Jabba (1 inch).
The lowest temperatures recorded were: Ziarat at -11°C, Qalat -9°C, Quetta -8°C, Gupis -6°C, Parachinar, Baghrot -4°C, and Hunza and Leh at -3°C.
