Water Crisis Intensifies in Pakistan as Shortage Hits 51%

Karachi:Pakistan’s water crisis has deepened significantly, with reports indicating a 51% shortage of water during both the Kharif and Rabi seasons. According to the sources from the Indus River System Authority (IRSA), the shortage has impacted agricultural production, raising concerns over the availability of water for crops in the coming months.

In the current Rabi season, the water deficit has reached a critical level, while the Tarbela Dam is at dead level, exacerbating the situation. However, following the dam’s depletion, the water availability has slightly improved, with provinces now receiving only half of their required water supply.

In response to the growing crisis, technical and advisory committees have been convened to address the water distribution and planning issues. The situation highlights the growing strain on the country’s water resources and the urgent need for more efficient water management strategies.
