Quetta:Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan, has expressed concern over recent events in Quetta where what began as a peaceful protest escalated into violence along Siryab Road towards the Red Zone.
According to Rind’s statement on the social media platform Twitter, protesters turned violent, pelting stones and setting fires when police attempted to intervene to maintain order and prevent damage to public property. The police responded by apprehending troublemakers and restoring law and order through legal means.
The spokesperson emphasized that while the provincial government sympathizes with the concerns regarding Zaher’s disappearance, as clarified by Interior Minister Zia Langove, they are not in control of any agency directly responsible for Zaher’s absence. Langove reaffirmed the public’s right to peaceful protest but underscored that anyone resorting to unlawful acts would face legal consequences.
The incident underscores ongoing tensions in Quetta, where demands for justice intersect with the imperative to uphold law and order. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation while ensuring citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly are respected within the bounds of the law.
