Violence Erupts in Bangladesh Protests Over Job Quota System, 133 Killed
Bangladesh:protests against the government’s job quota system for children of 1971 war veterans have turned violent, resulting in 133 deaths. The demonstrations, led by students, intensified across the country, prompting authorities to impose a nationwide curfew and authorize the use of lethal force against those violating public order. Two police officers were among those killed, with 150 others injured in clashes with protesters. Prime Minister Hasina Wajed has canceled foreign visits amid escalating tensions. The quota system allocates 30% of government jobs to war veterans’ children, a policy vehemently opposed by the protesting students who demand its abolition.
