Islamabad:The United States has expressed concerns over the Pakistani government’s decision to impose restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to a spokesperson for the US State Department, “We have seen the statements from the Pakistani government. Any restrictions on political parties are concerning to us.”
He stated, “It appears to be the beginning of a complex political process. We support democratic action and adherence to broader principles.”
The spokesperson emphasized that adherence to the rule of law and equal justice under the law are encompassed within broader principles.
It should be noted that besides imposing restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the government has also decided to initiate action under Article 6 against former President Arif Alvi, Imran Khan, and Qasim Suri.
Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, addressing a press conference in Islamabad, said, “There has been a lot of betrayal with the country. We want to take this country forward. If we want to take this country forward, then PTI and Pakistan cannot go together.”
On the other hand, while various political parties are opposing the decision to impose restrictions on PTI, voices of dissent have also started emerging from within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
