US Approves Sale of Advanced Defense Equipment to Qatar Worth $2 Billion

Washington:The United States has approved the sale of advanced defense equipment to Qatar, with a deal valued at approximately $2 billion. According to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the agreement includes the provision of 8 MQ-9B drones, 500-pound bombs, radar systems, satellite communication equipment, and targeting systems, with a total value of $1.96 billion.

As part of the agreement, the U.S. will also provide training and technical assistance to Qatar to ensure the effective use of the equipment. U.S. officials have stated that this deal will enhance Qatar’s defense capabilities and improve its ability to monitor and address threats. The military equipment will specifically be used for the protection and security of Qatar’s territory.

The United States has assured other countries in the region that the deal will not affect the military balance in the area. Two major U.S. defense contractors, General Atomics and Lockheed Martin, are involved in providing the equipment.

This agreement is part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. to strengthen its partnerships in the Middle East and ensure the security of its allies in the region.
