MUMBAI:Renowned Indian playback singer Udit Narayan has responded to the controversy surrounding a viral video in which he is seen kissing a young female fan during a live concert. The video, which sparked widespread criticism on social media, shows Narayan performing his famous song “Tip Tip Barsa Pani” when a young woman approaches him for a selfie. While taking the selfie, she kisses him on the cheek, and he reciprocates by kissing her back. This was followed by several other female fans approaching Narayan for photos, with him kissing them in return. At one point, a young woman received a kiss on the lips, which caused an uproar among the audience.
In his defense, Narayan stated that fans are often overwhelmed by their admiration for celebrities. He explained, “Fans are crazy. We are not like that, we are decent people. Some people show love in their own way. Fans think that since they get a chance to meet us, it’s normal to shake hands or even kiss. It’s all a form of madness, and we shouldn’t pay much attention to it.”
Despite his clarification, the video has drawn sharp criticism from social media users. Many expressed their disappointment, stating that they didn’t expect such behavior from a senior artist like Narayan. Some users even suggested that the video might have been altered using artificial intelligence, while others considered the act inappropriate, particularly for someone of his stature. One user remarked, “In old age, Uncle has caught the madness of youth.”
The incident has sparked a debate over the boundaries of fan-celebrity interactions, especially when it comes to public displays of affection at live events.
