Islamabad: The United Arab Emirates has expressed interest in acquiring Pakistan’s First Women Bank, according to sources from the Ministry of Finance.
This development indicates growing confidence among foreign investors in Pakistan’s financial sector. Sources noted that foreign investors have shown keen interest in the banking sector, with the UAE government expressing interest in the acquisition of First Women Bank.
UAE had previously presented an investment proposal to the Pakistani government, as efforts are underway for a government-to-government transaction for the bank. Legislation for government-to-government transactions in banking has been enacted by the Pakistani government, with discussions set to commence from February 2024 to further enhance the bank’s operations.
