Trump Takes Office, Cancels Biden’s Executive Orders and Issues New Ones

Washington:On his first day in office, U.S. President Donald Trump made significant moves by canceling 78 executive orders of former President Joe Biden and signing several new ones.

Following his inauguration, a ceremony was held at the Capital One Arena where a large crowd of Trump supporters gathered. Police and other departments paid their respects to the newly elected president. Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Vitkoff, also spoke at the event, introducing the families of Israeli hostages.

During the ceremony, President Trump signed multiple executive orders, including the cancellation of Biden’s 78 executive actions. According to the White House, Trump signed an order to pardon 1,500 individuals involved in the Capitol attack. He also froze federal employee hirings and rescinded the work-from-home facilities for federal employees.

Trump formally withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement and revoked Biden’s executive order on artificial intelligence policy. Additionally, he canceled Biden’s target of 50% electric car sales by 2030.

Trump also signed executive orders on immigration, designating drug cartels as terrorist organizations and imposing a national emergency on the southern border. He signed an order prioritizing the U.S. in international environmental agreements and another to provide emergency price relief for American families. He also reversed policies involving the federal government’s use of armed forces against political opponents.

In line with his controversial stance on social media, Trump signed an executive order on freedom of speech, aiming to end censorship. He also addressed TikTok, stating that the company could either be bought or shut down if China failed to approve the deal, even threatening tariffs on China.

Furthermore, Trump instructed the Attorney General not to take action on TikTok for the next 75 days and said he might finalize a deal to acquire 50% ownership of TikTok. He also ordered the end of all pending cases related to the January 6 attack and signed an executive order withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization.

Trump claimed that he would overturn what he described as “80 disastrous executive orders” from the previous administration and take necessary steps to curb inflation. He also emphasized that he would reduce the size of federal employees and halt the hiring of IRS agents.

Trump revealed plans to meet Russian President Putin but expressed uncertainty about when the meeting would occur. He also confirmed that the U.S. would cease buying oil from Venezuela.

In his speech, Trump criticized Biden’s family pardons, arguing that signing so many executive orders on the first day was not authoritarian. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate confirmed Marco Rubio as the Secretary of State and Robert Sellis as the Secretary of Defense.

It is important to note that on Monday, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
