Trump Signs Executive Order to Declassify Documents on JFK, RFK, and Martin Luther King Jr. Assassinations

Islamabad:U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to declassify all remaining secret documents related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. The executive order, issued by President Trump on Thursday, also includes the release of documents related to the investigations into the murders of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
Speaking on the occasion, President Trump said, “This is a big decision, and a lot of people have been waiting for decades for this. Now everything will come to light.” Under the executive order, the Director of National Intelligence has been instructed to present a plan to release the documents related to the investigations of John F. Kennedy’s assassination within 15 days, and those related to the killings of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. within 45 days.
John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. Various surveys have revealed that U.S. citizens have been waiting for years to learn the full details behind his murder.
President Trump also nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of Robert F. Kennedy, as the new Health Secretary. In a 2023 interview, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed that the CIA had a role in the murders of his father and uncle. After signing the executive order related to the investigations, President Trump handed the pen to his assistant, saying, “This pen should be given to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.”
On the other hand, John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, criticized the executive order, suggesting that the move was a political attempt at point-scoring.
It is important to note that in 1992, the U.S. Congress passed a law allowing future U.S. presidents to declassify documents related to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination within 25 years, taking national security into consideration. Along with the JFK, RFK, and Martin Luther King Jr. assassination documents, President Trump has also ordered the release of nearly 2,800 other secret documents.
