Truck Plunges into River in Ethiopia, 71 People Killed
Addis Ababa: A tragic incident occurred in Ethiopia when a truck, overcrowded with passengers, lost control and plunged into a river, resulting in the deaths of 71 people.
According to foreign news agencies, the accident took place in the Buno district, where the truck veered off course and crashed into the river. The injured passengers were promptly rushed to the Buno General Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Ethiopian state television reported that the victims were en route to attend a wedding, and among the deceased were 68 men and 3 women.
This devastating accident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Ethiopia, where poor driving conditions and unfit vehicles contribute to numerous fatal traffic accidents every year. In 2018, a similar tragedy occurred when a bus plunged into a ravine, killing 38 people, the majority of whom were students.
The authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident as they work towards improving road safety measures in the country.
