Gujranwala:In a heartbreaking incident in Gujranwala, a woman chose to end her life by jumping into a drain instead of undergoing a medical operation, allegedly due to financial distress caused by an unusually high electricity bill.
According to reports, the elderly woman, identified as Razia Khatoon, faced severe distress over the mounting expenses. Her son lamented that while their usual electricity bill was around 1100 rupees, this time it surged to 11,000 rupees, which they could not afford.
The financial strain led Razia Khatoon to take her own life as the family struggled to gather funds for her medical treatment, which were diverted towards paying the exorbitant bill. The rescue operation to recover her body from the drain faced complications due to its poor condition, necessitating the use of heavy equipment for the retrieval. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
