Islamabad:With the upcoming presidential elections in the United States scheduled for November 5 this year, a recent survey indicates that former President Donald Trump holds a slight edge over incumbent President Joe Biden. According to the survey conducted jointly by the international news agencies and public opinion experts at ‘ApSos’, Trump’s popularity stands at 43%, compared to President Biden’s 41%.
The marginal lead in popularity suggests that recent attacks on Donald Trump have not significantly altered voter sentiments. Concerns among Americans are growing that Trump’s removal from power may lead to increased political violence during the November 5 elections.
Eighty percent of respondents in the survey agreed that “the country is moving out of control.” The survey included 1,202 adults from across America, including 992 registered voters. Approximately 84% of those surveyed expressed fear that extremist violence could erupt following the elections, a higher figure than in May’s survey, where 74% of voters expressed similar concerns.
Fears of political violence in America intensified after Trump’s supporters attempted to overturn Biden’s electoral defeat on January 6, 2021, leading to a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and one police officer.
Meanwhile, media reports have highlighted discussions among some extremist Christian supporters of Donald Trump, who believe his protection is divinely ordained.
Sixty-five percent of respondents in the survey believed in divine protection for Donald Trump, with 11% of Democrats agreeing.
The survey underscores growing anxieties in the United States about potential unrest and violence surrounding the upcoming presidential elections.
