Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the decision to allocate reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Advocate Haris Azmat submitted the review petition, arguing that PTI was not a party to the case nor involved in judicial proceedings when seats were allocated. The petition questions whether the Sunni Ittehad Council and PTI should be considered separate political entities.
The Supreme Court has granted 15 days for candidates to join political parties, a move contested as unconstitutional. Previously, the federal government and allied parties had appealed against the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats. Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tareen expressed concerns in a press conference, claiming relief had been unfairly granted to PTI and questioning the legality of their appeal.
He emphasized that PTI had not conducted inter-party elections and had received funding through prohibited means. The Supreme Court had earlier declared the decision of the Peshawar High Court and Election Commission null and void, instructing PTI to be recognized in parliament and provincial assemblies as a political entity.
