Supreme Court Issues Notice in Child Abduction Case, Summons National Commission for Child Protection Representative

In a suo-motu notice case concerning the abduction of children across the country, the Supreme Court has summoned a representative of the National Commission for Child Protection for the next hearing. The hearing was conducted by a five-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Ameen-ud-Din Khan.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer stated that the court had previously ordered the Attorney General to meet with all Inspector Generals (IGs) of Police, but to date, no such meeting had taken place. The lawyer emphasized that while institutions for the protection of children exist, they are failing to take necessary actions.

Additional Attorney General, Amir Rehman, clarified that the Attorney General had indeed met with the IGs. In response, Justice Ameen-ud-Din Khan remarked that it is the responsibility of the relevant authorities to take action, and the court cannot do everything itself.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel also pointed out that while laws for the protection of children are in place, the problem lies in their lack of implementation.

The hearing of the suo-motu notice case has been adjourned indefinitely.
