Islamabad: The concise decision regarding specific seats of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been revealed, in which the court stated that 41 members of the assembly, including 15 working days, will indicate affiliation with a political party. Following this, PTI hopes for candidates’ verification by the Election Commission.
According to Express News, the Supreme Court has issued a majority brief decision on Sunni Ittehad Council’s reserved seats case. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail’s brief dissenting note, and Justice Yahya Afridi’s brief dissenting note have also been issued.
The majority brief decision states that PTI was and remains a political party, and in the general elections of 2024, it won seats in national and provincial assemblies. On June 27, the Election Commission presented a list of 80 members of the National Assembly, which was part of the concise judicial decision.
The decision states that according to the Election Commission’s compiled list, 39 candidates were represented by PTI, while the Election Commission independently represented 41 candidates. Independent candidates must demonstrate affiliation with a political party within 15 working days, and the Election Commission will issue notices to political parties on demonstrating party affiliation within 7 days.
It was further stated that upon completion of the verification process of independent candidates’ party affiliations, the Election Commission will issue a list within 7 days. The Election Commission shall submit an action commencement report to the Supreme Court upon completion of all stages of affiliation with independent candidates.
The judges stated in the decision that the application of the Supreme Court’s decision will also apply to three provincial assemblies in proportion to the principles of representation. The Election Commission or PTI may request clarification if necessary, and appropriate directions will be issued in the majority judges’ chamber upon receipt of such requests.
