Supreme Court Disposes of Miscellaneous Petition on Electronic Voting System

Islamabad (Daily Qudrat) – The Supreme Court has dismissed a miscellaneous petition related to the electronic voting system, declaring it ineffective. During the hearing of the case, Justice Jamal Mandokhel remarked that instead of looking to the Supreme Court for resolution, the matter should be taken up in Parliament. He advised Hamid Khan, the lawyer for the petitioner, to raise the issue in the Senate’s parliamentary committee.

Justice Mandokhel further stated, “The case is concluded, so how has the miscellaneous petition continued to be heard? Today, we wish to rectify this situation.”

The Director General (DG) Law of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) informed the court that, in line with previous judicial rulings, the electronic voting system had been used during the 2018 by-elections. He added that a report on its use had already been submitted to Parliament for review. The DG clarified that it is now up to Parliament to take further action on the matter.

The Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the petition signifies that the legal pathway for electronic voting system-related issues should be handled through legislative processes rather than judicial intervention.
