Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, has declared the decisions of the Election Commission and Peshawar High Court regarding reserved seats for the Sunni Ittehad Council null and void. The Chief Justice’s pivotal vote sided with the decision to secure a case related to the specific reserved seats. The 13-member larger bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa passed the verdict on the case concerning the Sunni Ittehad Council’s specific reserved seats.
Justice Isa remarked that the decision was by a majority of 8 to 5, with Justice Mansoor Ali Shah writing that the decisions of the Peshawar High Court and Election Commission were declared null and void. According to the verdict, the Election Commission’s decision was against the Constitution. The PTI political party was involved, and it means that not receiving electoral symbols does not mean all rights are lost, the decision was given a majority of 8 against 5.
