Supreme Court Bar Demands Opening of All Roads and Removal of Blockades in Islamabad Amid PTI Protest
Islamabad: The Supreme Court Bar Association has condemned the ongoing sit-ins and protests organized by the political party PTI, calling on the administration to immediately open all roads and dismantle the roadblocks in the city.
In a statement issued on the matter, the Supreme Court Bar Association expressed strong disapproval of the ongoing protests and road closures in Islamabad and other parts of the country. The Bar emphasized that road blockades were causing undue inconvenience to the public and demanded their immediate removal.
The statement further stated that while Article 16 of the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest, it should not be misused to further political agendas. The Bar denounced attempts to “take control” of the federal capital in the name of a political cause, labeling it as an unhelpful and disruptive action.
The statement also referred to the previous day’s terrorist attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging the political party to reconsider its call for protests in light of the security situation.
“The right to free movement is a fundamental right for every citizen. Closing off major highways and surrounding Islamabad with containers is not an acceptable solution,” the Bar Association said.
It further emphasized that a democratic society cannot function by resorting to road blockades and disruption of public services. The safety of citizens and maintaining law and order should be the administration’s top priority, and blocking roads will not resolve the issues at hand.
The Supreme Court Bar Association concluded its statement by reiterating the call for the immediate removal of all blockades and the reopening of all roads to ensure the smooth functioning of the city.
