Quetta, Balochistan: On the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Umar (RA), the Sunni Scholars Council of Balochistan, led by Maulana Mohammad Ramzan Mengal, organized a protest rally in the provincial capital, Quetta. The rally, which commenced from various thoroughfares and culminated outside the Quetta Press Club, featured banners and placards demanding official recognition and public observance of Hazrat Umar’s significance.
Prominent figures including Hafiz Mohammad Qasim Farooqi, Maulana Mufti Kaleemullah Haideri, Maulana Abdul Rahim Sajid, and Maulana Abdul Khaliq Sunni participated in the demonstration. Maulana Mohammad Ramzan Mengal and other leaders addressed the crowd, expressing concerns over the government’s reluctance to declare a public holiday on Hazrat Umar’s martyrdom anniversary, a demand they claimed had been long-standing among the Sunni community.
The leaders emphasized that for decades, the Sunni community had been striving peacefully for the official recognition of Hazrat Umar’s martyrdom anniversary. They urged the authorities to heed their demands and take steps to honor the days significant to the Rightly Guided Caliphs by declaring official holidays, similar to other recognized religious observances in the country.
The rally concluded peacefully with assurances from the Sunni Scholars Council to continue their efforts until their demands are met by the authorities.
