Sunni Council Chairman Demands Immediate Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner
Islamabad: Hameed Raza, Chairman of the Sunni Council, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Following a judicial decision, speaking outside the Supreme Court, Hameed Raza stated that the Election Commission attempted to steal the mandate but failed. The Supreme Court also expressed lack of confidence in the Election Commission.
Chairman Hameed Raza remarked that today the Supreme Court upheld justice by restoring the dignity of the institution. PTI leader Shibli Faraz commented that today is a crucial day in political history, as specific seats were gained but those lost through Form 47 should be reinstated.
Shibli Faraz emphasized that until all our seats are returned through Form 47, the struggle will continue. It is clear that the Supreme Court has declared invalid the decision of the Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission regarding specific seats of the Sunni Council.
Under the leadership of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the 13-member larger bench of the Supreme Court had previously reserved judgment on the case concerning specific seats of the Sunni Council, which was subsequently heard by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The court declared the Election Commission’s notification of May 13 as unconstitutional. The majority decision of the Supreme Court emphasized that depriving a party of electoral symbols does not disqualify it from participating in electoral activities.
