Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Former England Captains Over Criticism of India

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has strongly criticized former England captains Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain, urging them to stop complaining and blaming India for their misfortunes. Gavaskar’s comments came after Atherton and Hussain suggested that India having their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai gave them an unfair advantage.

In response, Gavaskar questioned why the English pundits were not focusing on their own team’s failure to qualify for the Champions Trophy and constantly blaming India instead. He remarked, “These are intelligent and experienced people, but why don’t you look at why your team did not qualify? Instead of focusing on India all the time, shouldn’t you be looking at your own backyard?”

Gavaskar further pointed out that England’s players were mentally fragile, caring more about expectations being met than actual results. He advised them to focus on results and take care of their own team rather than constantly lamenting that India is receiving privileges in world cricket.

The former Indian cricketer also mentioned that India’s dominance in world cricket should be acknowledged. “We should ignore their complaints and let them mourn,” he said. “We have good things to focus on, and I don’t think they realize where India stands in terms of quality in international cricket.”

Gavaskar concluded by highlighting India’s significant role in global cricket, particularly in terms of revenue. He reminded England’s former players that their salaries are, in part, funded by the revenue India generates for world cricket.
