Sugar Mills Association Assures Adequate Sugar Stocks in Pakistan, Rejects Price Hike Claims

Lahore: The Sugar Mills Association has assured that there is a sufficient stock of sugar in the country to meet consumer demands, rejecting claims of a sugar shortage.

In a general body meeting held in Lahore, the association dismissed the impact of a supposed sugar shortage. A spokesperson for the association clarified that sugar prices have now returned to the government-mandated level, and reports suggesting a price hike due to sugar exports are false and baseless. The spokesperson accused grocery merchants and the speculative mafia of spreading rumors to drive up prices.

The spokesperson further explained that 80% of the sugar is consumed by the industrial and commercial sectors, while only 20% is used by domestic consumers. They recommended that the government adopt separate pricing mechanisms for both sectors.
