Quetta:In a remarkable medical achievement, doctors at the Children’s Hospital in Quetta successfully removed a tumor from the spine of a 3-year-old girl from Musa Khail. The child had been unable to walk due to the tumor.
The plight of the girl gained attention after a video of her father appealing for help with her painful condition circulated on social media. Following this, Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakr directed that the child’s treatment begin promptly.
The Balochistan government contacted the family and arranged for the girl to be transported to the Children’s Hospital via ambulance. There, Professor Surgeon Ghulam Nabi Nasir, head of the Surgery Department, performed a 2.5-hour operation to remove a 5-kilogram Sacrococcygeal Teratoma (SCT).
Medical experts explain that Sacrococcygeal teratomas are tumors that develop near the base of the spine, specifically close to the coccyx. These tumors are present at birth and occur in approximately one in every 35,000 children.
Previously, the girl’s parents had sought treatment in Punjab but were unable to proceed with surgery due to financial constraints. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakr, and Professor Surgeon Ghulam Nabi Nasir for facilitating the urgent surgery for their daughter.
