Chaman:After 10 months of continuous protest against the Passport Policy regime, negotiations between organizers and Pakistani and Afghan authorities have proven successful. According to security directives, only Spin Boldak residents and registered laborers with Chaman’s identification cards or Afghan travel documents will be allowed pedestrian entry at Chaman Border. Passport requirement remains mandatory for all other individuals.
Organizers of the protest acknowledged that Chaman had unfairly gained a negative reputation due to political gains and statements against provincial and state interests. They reiterated their respect for all Pakistani laws, including those governing passport issuance. They pledged not to engage in future protests that contravene national legislation and expressed strong opposition to disruptive elements.
The organizers demanded improved governmental initiatives for the welfare of Chaman’s public, particularly in facilitating passport acquisition. They requested additional staff and vehicles for implementing ID card issuance and committed to ensuring regular attendance of teaching staff in all educational institutions. They emphasized the need for proper appointment and attendance of healthcare professionals, especially female doctors, in the health sector.
The Deputy Commissioner of Chaman assured unrestricted public access to open courts during the Kachahri sessions and committed to addressing daily issues, particularly economic concerns, that do not conflict with the passport regime. The protest concluded peacefully at the border, where pedestrian entry continued as usual.
