Statue of Nawab Sir Sadiq Abbasi Vandalized in Bahawalpur, Public Demands Immediate Action
Bahawalpur:The statue of Nawab Sir Sadiq Abbasi, the former ruler of the princely state of Bahawalpur, was vandalized in the city’s Gulzar Sadiq Park, sparking outrage among local residents. The statue, which was installed along the park’s boundary, was found to be missing its head, with authorities confirming that the act was carried out by unknown vandals.
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from the public, who expressed concern over the security measures in place, particularly the oversight of the local police and Cantonment Board. Citizens are questioning how such an act of vandalism could occur in a public space, calling it a direct attack on the region’s history and heritage.
Local residents have demanded that higher authorities take swift action to arrest those responsible for the act. “This is an attack on our history, and it cannot be ignored. If the culprits are not caught immediately, we will be forced to protest,” said one concerned citizen.
In response, a spokesperson for the Cantonment Board confirmed that a case had been filed, and an investigation was underway. “We have registered a formal complaint and are actively looking into the matter,” the spokesperson said.
The incident has raised concerns about the protection of cultural landmarks and the effectiveness of security in public spaces. The statue of Nawab Sir Sadiq Abbasi, who played a significant role in the history of the region, was meant to honor his legacy, and the act of defacing it has left many in the community deeply disturbed.
