Quetta:Shahid Rind, the spokesperson for the Balochistan government, has emphasized that the provincial administration is deeply aware of the overall situation in Balochistan. Despite the prevalence of popular but unfounded statements on social media, it remains the constitutional responsibility of the government to ensure the protection of ordinary citizens and national interests through rigorous administrative decisions. He clarified that the government has no intention to curtail the democratic right to protest, but disorderly conduct cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
In a recent statement, Shahid Rind underscored that the provincial government is vigilant in adhering to its constitutional responsibilities. Measures are being taken to facilitate dialogue and dispel apprehensions on all matters within the legal framework. However, he stressed that governance based solely on public sentiment for political gain may temporarily benefit certain groups but will not serve national interests in the long run.
Addressing the role of political parties, Shahid Rind urged them to prioritize national interests over transient popularity. He reiterated that while protests are a constitutional right, it is the administrative duty to determine suitable venues for such activities. He pointed out that across the world, aggressive behavior during protests and actions cannot be overlooked.
Regarding recent protests in Gwadar, Shahid Rind mentioned that Chief Minister Mir Sanaullah Zehri has already presented the government’s policy statement on the elected parliamentary forum of the people. The provincial executive has acknowledged the right of demonstrators to peaceful protest and proposed negotiations for a peaceful demonstration at an appropriate venue. However, resistance from the Baloch Unity Council indicates their aim is not peaceful protest but tarnishing the state’s image through baseless allegations and obstructing economic projects like CPEC.
Shahid Rind concluded by stating that the state has exercised patience and restraint and will continue to do so, but demonstrators must also recognize their administrative and ethical responsibilities in all matters.
