Islamabad:Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has declined the demand from heads of standing committees for new cars, citing complaints about the outdated and inefficient performance of the vehicles provided.
The Speaker directed the National Assembly Secretariat to repair the existing cars for committee chairpersons, clarifying that current economic conditions do not permit the purchase of new vehicles.
According to sources, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq informed committee heads that the cars provided are from the 2017 and 2019 models, whereas the car allocated to him is from the 2015 model, indicating insufficient funds for new purchases.
Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also imposed restrictions on purchasing new cars, and the Ministry of Finance had denied funds for new acquisitions.
A spokesperson highlighted that repairs have been initiated as per the Speaker’s directives, emphasizing that despite being older models, the vehicles at the National Assembly Secretariat remain operational.
