Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Warns of Regional Impact if Afghanistan Remains a Safe Haven for Terrorists

Islamabad:Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has stated that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for terrorists, and if the international community does not take notice, the fire of terrorism in Pakistan will also threaten neighboring countries.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Harvard University Students Association, Ayaz Sadiq briefed the members on Pakistan’s stance on key national, regional, and international issues, including legislation and security matters.
Sadiq emphasized that Pakistan is facing serious threats from terrorism and climate change. He pointed out that Afghan soil is being used for terrorism against Pakistan, and the country has repeatedly shared evidence with the Afghan interim government regarding terrorist organizations operating on its soil. He also raised the issue of Afghanistan’s use against Pakistan at the United Nations and informed senior U.S. officials about the alarming situation.
He noted that terrorists are using modern weapons left by the U.S. in Afghanistan, adding that the terror in Pakistan could spread to other countries in the region if left unchecked. “If this fire spreads, even neighboring countries will not remain safe. The world must take notice of this situation,” he warned.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq further praised Pakistan’s brave security forces, who have been fighting terrorism, highlighting that Pakistan has paid a heavy price in the war against terrorism, with over 90,000 lives lost.
He also spoke about Pakistan’s longstanding desire for peaceful relations with neighboring countries and mentioned that Pakistan has carried the burden of hosting 4.6 million Afghan refugees for many years.
Sadiq also addressed the issue of climate change, stating that Pakistan is one of the countries most affected by climate change, having suffered significant loss in both human lives and finances in 2022 due to its impacts.
On the political front, he criticized the opposition for engaging in point-scoring rather than addressing public and national issues. He stated that as the custodian of the House, he has always ensured neutrality in running the assembly and has given the opposition more time than the government. He also made decisions on production orders by going a step further in the interest of fairness.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq concluded by saying that social media often misrepresents Pakistan’s true image, and the real identity of Pakistan can only be understood by visiting the country.
