Sindhi Film ‘Sindhu Ji Gonj’ Premieres at Jaipur Film Festival After 28 Years

Islamabad:After a 28-year hiatus, the first Sindhi language film, *Sindhu Ji Gonj* (Indus Echo), is being showcased at the Jaipur Film Festival, with its premiere scheduled for January 21. This marks a historic moment for the Pakistani film industry, as *Sindhu Ji Gonj* is the first Sindhi film to be made since *Himmat* in 1997.

Directed by Rahul Ijaz, *Sindhu Ji Gonj* is a feature-length Sindhi film that tells a powerful central story through five parallel narratives. The film revolves around the cultural heritage symbolized by the mighty River Indus and the people who live around it. According to Rahul Ijaz, the metaphorical significance of the river, culturally and historically, has driven the inspiration for the film.

The film beautifully portrays the natural beauty of Sindh while telling its stories. *Sindhu Ji Gonj* is a collaborative effort between three international film studios: South Korea’s Chip Media Productions, Sham Films, and Big Meta Films. This joint production among Pakistan, South Korea, and Bangladesh is a testament to the global reach of Pakistani cinema.

The executive producer of *Sindhu Ji Gonj* is Shamoon Abbasi. The film’s world premiere took place in Karachi on January 16 at Cinepax Cinema, and Pakistani audiences are eagerly awaiting its nationwide release through Anthem Films, though the final release date is yet to be confirmed.

The screening of *Sindhu Ji Gonj* at the Jaipur Film Festival will also mark the beginning of a new chapter for Sindhi cinema, providing an opportunity for cultures and stories to transcend international borders.
