Sindh Sports Minister Criticizes National Cricketers, Emphasizes Importance of Fitness and Nutrition

Karachi:Sindh’s Minister for Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehr, has criticized national cricketers for their lack of fitness, stating that consuming heavy foods like haleem, nihari, and halwa puri would not help them perform well on the field. Speaking at a cricket tournament ceremony in Karachi, Sardar Mehr stressed that cricketers must focus on their diet and nutrition to enhance their performance.

He expressed disappointment over the national team’s performance in the Champions Trophy, saying that the whole nation was let down as the team failed to reach the final. “The national team did not make it to the final, and neither did we. We need to work harder on improving our cricket team,” he added.

While acknowledging that cricket falls outside his jurisdiction, Sardar Mehr stated that he felt compelled to contribute to the sport and promised to take steps to improve the situation. He also delivered a message to players, emphasizing that fitness is key to success.

The Minister also spoke about the progress in sports events in Korangi, saying that in the past, the area was known for issues like China cutting and land grabbing. However, he expressed his happiness in seeing sporting events take place in Korangi today. He announced that the Sindh government would organize various sports events, including cricket, in the district next year.

Furthermore, Sardar Mehr declared plans to establish a Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Cricket Academy and a gymnasium club in Korangi, furthering the province’s commitment to promoting sports and fitness.
