Sindh Chief Minister Directs Round-the-Clock Work on BRT Red Line Project
Karachi : Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has directed for round-the-clock work to be carried out on the BRT Red Line project in Karachi. Under his supervision, a crucial meeting was held to address concerns of local residents due to ongoing developmental activities in the area. Shah emphasized expediting the project without causing inconvenience to the public amidst traffic congestion issues.
Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon briefed the Chief Minister on the progress, stating that work on the Lyari Expressway to M.A. Jinnah Road section has achieved 9.46% completion, while progress on the Lyari to Tower section stands at 15.3%. Memon highlighted challenges in utility relocation affecting project timelines, with completion scheduled for March 2026 for the Lyari route and June 2026 for the Tower route.
During the meeting, CM Shah instructed the Water Board to expedite construction on the Jehangir Avenue corridor within two months to alleviate traffic issues. He expressed concern over mixed traffic lanes on Lyari and urged for swift action to segregate BRT routes. Shah directed the Water Board to work day and night to complete their respective lines and ensure timely execution of the BRT Red Line project.
Additionally, CM Shah was informed about utility relocations impacting electrical networks. He directed the Commissioner Karachi to grant right-of-way permissions within a month to facilitate cable shifting for electrical networks. The Solid Waste Management Board was also instructed to clear garbage from Ukay Apartments Road, Askari Park, and Jail Chowrangi.
“The resolution of issues related to the BRT Red Line will expedite work on the Transport Corridor,” said CM Shah, underscoring the importance of swift resolution for seamless project execution. The meeting was attended by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Principal Secretary Agha Waseem, Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, MD Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, Secretary Transport Asad Zaman, DIG Traffic, Director KE Haris Siddiqui, and other officials.
