Karachi: The Sindh Assembly has approved a resolution for the formation of constitutional benches in the High Courts under Article 202-A of the Constitution. The resolution, presented by Provincial Minister for Interior Ziaul Hasan Lanjhar, received strong support from members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), who stood to vote in favor.
A total of 123 members voted in favor of the resolution, while members of Jamaat-e-Islami and the Sunni Ittehad Council opposed it, with Jamaat-e-Islami’s Farooq Ahmed and four members of the Sunni Ittehad Council expressing dissent.
Minister Lanjhar emphasized that presenting the resolution was necessary under Clause 6 of Article 202-A, highlighting it as an constitutional obligation. Following the vote, the Sindh Assembly session was adjourned indefinitely.
