Calgary,Canada:Under the auspices of Sikh For Justice, a referendum was conducted in Calgary, Canada, to gauge support for the establishment of Khalistan, a separate homeland for Sikhs in India. Despite efforts by the Indian government to thwart the referendum, thousands of Sikhs came out from their homes to cast their votes.
The voting process began with prayers and ceremonial rituals performed by family members of martyrs. Following the prayer ceremony, slogans advocating the creation of Khalistan echoed through the skies. Currently, Calgary boasts a Sikh population of nearly one hundred thousand, making it a significant hub of Sikh community activism outside of India.
The referendum marks a significant moment in the ongoing movement for Khalistan, reflecting the strong sentiment and aspirations among Sikhs worldwide for self-determination and recognition of their distinct identity.
