Shoaib Akhtar Says Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy Was Already Signed
Islamabad:Former fast bowler of the national cricket team, Shoaib Akhtar, has stated that the hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy had already been signed earlier.
In a discussion on PTV Sports, Akhtar praised the efforts of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohammad Naqi, calling him sincere and expressing confidence in the ongoing stadium construction and renovation work, which he believes will be completed on time.
Regarding the Champions Trophy, Shoaib Akhtar mentioned that Mohammad Naqi’s stance was justified, but he believed the hybrid model, which would involve hosting matches in both Pakistan and other countries, had already been finalized.
Akhtar further emphasized that the statements made to protect one’s position are appropriate, especially when the financial commitment for hosting the tournament is being met as per the estimates. He also pointed out that revenue generation was increasing, which is a positive aspect.
The former cricketer also spoke on Pakistan’s stance regarding the Champions Trophy, asserting that it was absolutely correct for Pakistan to present its position, especially when a country not willing to play the tournament in Pakistan would still benefit significantly from the revenue.
Looking towards the future, Shoaib Akhtar suggested that if the issue of playing in India arises again, Pakistan should extend the hand of friendship and display magnanimity. He expressed the belief that Pakistan should aim to defeat India on their own soil, showcasing true sportsmanship and pride.
