Shibli Faraz Resigns from Judicial Commission Membership Following Omar Ayub’s Exit

Islamabad: After opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, resigned from the Judicial Commission, opposition leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, has also stepped down from his position.
Faraz cited ongoing legal issues, including cases registered against him and court hearings, as the reason for his resignation. In his resignation letter, addressed to the Chairman of the Senate, Shibli Faraz stated that the cases required his attention, making it difficult for him to dedicate time to the Judicial Commission. He also nominated Ali Zafar as his replacement on the Commission.
This comes a day after Omar Ayub, in his resignation, similarly pointed to the FIRs (First Information Reports) and legal cases against him as the reason for his departure from the Commission. In his resignation sent to Speaker National Assembly, Ayub had recommended Barrister Gohar as his replacement.
Following the 26th constitutional amendment earlier this year, which paved the way for the formation of the Judicial Commission to appoint judges to the superior judiciary, members of Parliament were appointed to the Commission. From PTI, Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz were nominated as members of the Commission. Both had attended the Commission’s initial meeting before submitting their resignations.
