Rawalpindi: Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has stated that the 26th Amendment will prove detrimental to the government, claiming it will yield no benefits. In a media briefing outside the Anti-Terrorism Court, he warned that if Maulana Fazlur Rehman calls for a 27th Amendment, it will have significant repercussions.
Rasheed expressed that the current rulers’ aspirations have been shattered, advising them to abandon dreams of further amendments. He acknowledged the contributions of Imran Khan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman in enhancing the nation’s dignity.
He also highlighted the historic appointment of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, praising the Afridi tribe for their victories against various powers throughout history.
Additionally, Rasheed urged the Army Chief to pardon the innocent vendors arrested during protests on May 9. On a legal front, he has filed petitions seeking dismissal of all charges against him, claiming they are politically motivated and lack evidence. The court has accepted his petitions for hearing, issuing notices to investigative officers, with the next hearing scheduled for November 8.
