Sharjeel Memon Warns PML-N Over Ministers’ Statements: “This Approach Won’t Work

Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon** has urged **Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif** and **PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif** to rein in their ministers who are making inflammatory statements regarding the controversial **canal projects**. Speaking at a joint press conference in **Karachi** alongside **Nasir Hussain Shah** and **Aajiz Dhamrah**, Memon made it clear that such rhetoric could worsen the situation rather than resolve it.

Memon emphasized that the **Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)** has maintained a consistent and clear stance against the construction of disputed canals. “People’s concerns are valid, and we aim to resolve the issue through dialogue,” he said. He pointed out that during the caretaker government, **IRSA (Indus River System Authority)** issued a certificate claiming sufficient water was available for the canals, yet Sindh’s representative opposed it even then.

He backed his claims with records, saying that **Sindh Chief Minister** had signed a summary against the canals on **June 16**, which was sent to the federal government by **July 3**. “We have all the letters and documentation proving PPP’s consistent opposition,” Memon stated. He also reminded that **President of Pakistan** himself opposed the project in a **joint parliamentary session**, further validating PPP’s position.

Addressing the technical aspect, Memon noted that **Punjab has sweet groundwater**, suitable for agriculture, whereas **Sindh faces severe shortages**. He also revealed that **Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah** had contacted him recently and conveyed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wants a resolution. “Shehbaz Sharif is the Prime Minister of the entire country—he must address people’s concerns,” Memon urged.

While defending the right to protest, Memon appealed for restraint: *“Please don’t block roads. Livestock are stuck in trucks, exports are delayed, and people are suffering. Keep the protests peaceful.”*

He also criticized certain PML-N ministers for issuing divisive statements. “Some are acting non-politically,” he said, warning that if the verbal attacks continue, **PPP might not be able to restrain its own spokespersons**.

“This attitude will not help. Politics demands maturity in times of crisis,” Memon added, labeling **Rana Sanaullah’s outreach** as a positive step and urging PML-N leadership to control their camp to prevent further escalation.
