Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Criticizes Proposed Constitutional Amendments
Islamabad:Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, head of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has voiced strong concerns regarding the proposed constitutional amendments, stating that “no one has any idea about the jurisdiction of constitutional courts.”
While addressing a gathering at a private university in Lahore, Abbasi emphasized that the amendments are being pushed to prevent a single individual from becoming Chief Justice. He pointed out that no senator has reviewed the proposed amendments, urging that they should be presented to the public. “There is no country in the world where laws are passed without thorough examination,” he added.
Abbasi further remarked on the current Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, suggesting that he has deviated from his intended path. He asserted that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has no option but to speak out, as remaining silent would require accountability in the future.
He concluded by stating that elections alone are not the solution to the country’s issues, as they can be manipulated. Abbasi stressed that this is a test of leadership: “The question is whether we can manage to run the country or not.”
