Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Calls PTI Protest a “Spectacle,” Reveals Key Insights

Islamabad: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former Prime Minister, has responded to PTI’s ongoing protest, calling it a “spectacle.” He stated that no one has the right to attack the federal capital, Islamabad, but emphasized that protesting is a constitutional right.
Abbasi further commented on the current government’s performance, claiming it is the most “fearful” administration he has ever witnessed. He added that the government lacks a legitimate mandate, and political discourse has been transformed into a platform for hatred and animosity. He criticized Imran Khan, the leader of PTI, for allegedly ruining parliamentary politics in the country.
Addressing PTI’s agenda, Abbasi remarked that if PTI is protesting for the release of Imran Khan, this would be inappropriate. He suggested that PTI should focus on governing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and playing a constructive opposition role elsewhere in the country.
He pointed out that no weak government would yield to PTI’s demands if they resort to protests. He blamed the lack of dialogue between the government and opposition for the current political difficulties.
Abbasi also dismissed the political significance of Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, stating that she holds no substantial political weight. He added that the public does not accept the relationship between Imran Khan and his supporters.
Finally, Abbasi mocked PTI’s protest plans, saying that they would not be able to reach D-Chowk, recalling that during their previous 126-day sit-in, PTI itself had not managed to remain at D-Chowk for long. He concluded by stating that the reality behind PTI’s protest would soon be revealed as another “spectacle.”
