The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology has sparked growing concerns worldwide, as many celebrities fall victim to fabricated videos and images. Recently, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan became the latest target of this phenomenon, with fake images claiming to show him and his family in the holy city of Mecca.
The images, which surfaced around New Year’s Eve, depict Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri, and their son Aryan Khan in front of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, leading to claims that the family had visited the sacred site to mark the start of the new year. The photos quickly went viral on social media, but fact-checking revealed that these images were created using AI technology and were not real.
The photos also sparked rumors suggesting that Gauri Khan had converted to Islam and accompanied her husband to Mecca. However, Gauri has long clarified that while she respects Shah Rukh’s faith, she has never converted and has no plans to do so. In a 2005 interview on Karan Johar’s show *Koffee with Karan*, Gauri expressed her belief in mutual respect and stated that both she and Shah Rukh honor each other’s religions.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have been married since October 25, 1991, and have always maintained a harmonious relationship built on love and mutual understanding. In a recent *Ask Shah Rukh Khan* session on X (formerly Twitter), Shah Rukh praised Gauri, saying, “Her heart and mind are the simplest, and she has always led us to believe in family, goodness, and love.”
This incident serves as a reminder of the growing power of AI and deepfake technology to spread misinformation and target public figures, highlighting the need for greater vigilance and regulation in combating such fake content.
