Severe Flood Warning Issued for Koh-Sulaiman Region Due to Increased Water Flow

Quetta:The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a severe flood warning for the Koh-Sulaiman mountainous region following an increase in water flow due to recent heavy rains. According to PDMA spokesperson, the ongoing rainfall in the mountainous areas is causing a significant rise in water flow, leading to a high risk of extreme flood events in Shirani and Zhob.

The Director General of PDMA has alerted the Commissioners of Zhob and Shirani, instructing them to keep emergency control rooms on high alert. The PDMA also emphasized the need to keep the Rescue 1122 disaster response teams on standby and ensure an adequate stock of petrol and diesel for rescue operations. Additionally, citizens are advised to stay updated on the situation and evacuate homes and livestock in flood-prone areas. Relief camps are to be set up to provide food, clean drinking water, and other necessary services.

Residents are urged to follow precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel. Those living in low-lying areas are advised to refrain from crossing rivers and streams. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recommended that people download the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app to receive timely updates and guidelines. NDMA has also directed provincial disaster management authorities and local administrations to remain vigilant and take appropriate measures to protect vulnerable populations.

In the districts of Jhal Magsi and Gandawa, heavy rains are expected to exacerbate flood conditions. Authorities have advised populations near seasonal streams to take preventive measures against floodwaters. Special attention should be given during nighttime to stay informed about rainfall and flood conditions.

In Khuzdar and its surroundings, an emergency control room has been established in response to the recent heavy monsoon rains. According to Deputy Commissioner Khuzdar Muhammad Arif Zarkoon, the control room is operational, and all departments have been instructed to remain on high alert. Available machinery is on the road to handle any emergencies, and the public is advised to contact the emergency control room numbers in case of any urgent issues.

The continuous rainfall over the past thirty hours has led to a significant decrease in temperature, making the weather more pleasant. However, the rain has caused severe flooding in rivers and streams, leading to water accumulation and muddy conditions in the city.
