Severe Cold Wave Hits Northern Balochistan, Temperatures Drop Below Freezing Point
Islamabad:A severe cold wave has swept through the northern regions of Balochistan, with temperatures plunging below freezing due to the cold winds from Kandahar. In Quetta, the temperature has been recorded at minus four degrees Celsius, while areas like Ziarat, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Mastung are also experiencing freezing conditions, with water beginning to freeze on the streets.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperatures in Quetta and northern Balochistan are expected to drop further over the next two to three days, with dry and intense cold conditions continuing throughout this week.
The freezing temperatures have caused standing water in streets and alleys to freeze, disrupting daily activities. In addition, the severe cold has exacerbated the ongoing gas shortage. Many residents in Ziarat, Mangchar, Mastung, and Qila Abdullah are facing a severe lack of gas supply, leading to protests.
Angry citizens in these areas have blocked the Quetta-Karachi highway and staged demonstrations, burning tires in frustration over the gas supply crisis. In Quetta, residents have also expressed their dissatisfaction by blocking roads to protest the ongoing gas outages.
The combination of extreme cold and gas shortages has created significant hardships for the people of Balochistan, leaving many residents struggling to cope with the freezing temperatures.
