Severe Cold Grips Pakistan as Winter Begins; Snowfall and Freezing Temperatures Reported in Various Regions
Islamabad:With the arrival of December, the intensity of cold weather has increased significantly across much of Pakistan. In Skardu, the temperature has dropped to a freezing minus 6 degrees Celsius, while in Gilgit, it has plummeted to just 1 degree Celsius.
According to media reports, heavy snowfall in Swat has led to the closure of the Kaghan Road, blocking access to tourists heading towards Naran. Additionally, hotels in Naran and other northern areas have been shut down, and essential services like electricity are unavailable.
In Balochistan, the ongoing rainfall in the Quetta valley and surrounding areas has further intensified the cold. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that northern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Pothohar region may experience more rain and snowfall in the coming days.
As the country faces a sharp drop in temperatures, authorities have urged the public to take precautions, especially when traveling to colder regions, and to dress warmly to avoid health risks.
