Senior PTI Leader Shir Afzal Marwat Says Talks Could Resume with Imran Khan’s Release Offer
Islamabad:Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shir Afzal Marwat has stated that the negotiations, which began on October 22, will continue until November 26, and that PTI was offered Imran Khan’s release within 15 to 20 days.
In a private TV interview, Marwat acknowledged that the decision to march to D-Chowk caused a setback in the ongoing talks, a development that could have been avoided. He further clarified that Imran Khan had delayed his civil disobedience movement upon the party leadership’s advice, but stressed that this was only a temporary delay. “It is incorrect to say that Imran Khan has backed out from this call,” he added.
Marwat accused the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of attempting to block the progress of the negotiations. However, he expressed confidence that when a decision comes from the top, they will have no choice but to join the talks. “Efforts are still underway to restart the negotiations,” he said.
It is worth noting that Imran Khan has formed a committee for talks with the government, but formal discussions have not yet begun.
On the other hand, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif responded by saying that PTI had not extended any formal offer for talks. He stated, “If PTI wants to engage in dialogue, Imran Khan himself needs to make that clear.”
